Joonkee leads VOGO FUND Labs, which serves as our laboratory for innovative technology driven asset management opportunities.
After graduating from MIT with a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in engineering and an MBA, he worked for Wall Street firms such as Salomon Brothers, Merrill Lynch, and Lehman Brothers, in global financial centers such as New York and Hong Kong, mainly in derivatives and capital markets.
Most recently, he was Head of Korea and Asia for Cumberland DRW, a global leader in cryptocurrency trading, and he is currently an auditor at Hashed, a leading crypto investment firm. Cumberland DRW is a subsidiary of DRW, a Chicago-based technology-driven financial products trading and market-making firm.
He also has vast experiences in Korean financial markets, having served as Korea country head for UBS Group (at both bank branch and securities subsidiary) and as an independent board director of Kakao Bank. He was active in various economy and policy advisory roles for government offices such as the President Office (“Blue House”), MoEF (Ministry of Economy and Finance), FSS (Financial Supervisory Service) and Bank of Korea (the central bank).
In recognition of these contributions, he has received citation awards and a plaque of appreciation from the Minister of Economy and Finance and the Governor of the Financial Supervisory Service.
Mr. Donald Hong currently serves as Managing Director at VOGO FUND LABS, where he oversees product development and marketing strategy.
With an illustrious 36-year career in the financial sector, Mr. Hong possesses comprehensive expertise across nearly every facet of the securities industry, including Sales & Trading, Research, Investment Banking, International Finance and Sales, and hedge fund investment management.
A seasoned leader in global markets, he served as CEO of Woori Investment & Securities’ New York office. Upon returning to Korea, he led the firm’s international expansion as Head of the Global Business Division. For the 12 years prior to joining VOGO, he focused on the wealth management sector, serving as a Senior Private Banker responsible for managing portfolios for corporate clients and high-net-worth individuals (HNWIs).
Throughout his 36-year tenure, Mr. Hong has developed a unique dual perspective, witnessing the rapid growth of the Korean financial markets alongside the sophisticated practices of Wall Street.
